Should I test for hydrogen or methane SIBO?
Which is best a hydrogen or methane breath test, or should I do both? And what about Hydrogen sulfide SIBO, is there a test for that?
A good lab will actually test for both Hydrogen and Methane at the same time.
I have seen many negative hydrogen but methane positive breath tests so it’s really important to test for both so that SIBO isn’t missed.
There is a third type of SIBO called Hydrogen sulphide SIBO which sadly there is no breath test for yet – there is a urine test however in the early stages of validation but I do use this to test for Hydrgoen sulphide SIBO if the breath test results show a pattern that looks like hydrogen sulphide SIBO and the symptoms also make me suspicious of this.
